FLOYD COUNTY, Ga. — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been asked to look into an inmate's death at the Floyd County jail.

Jail staff found the inmate "unresponsive" in their cell Saturday, according to the Floyd County Sheriff's Office. Staff started lifesaving efforts and the inmate was rushed to a nearby hospital.

"Ultimately, jail staff and hospital personnel were unsuccessful in their lifesaving efforts," the sheriff's office said.

The GBI was asked to conduct an investigation, as is standard procedure. The sheriff's office is not releasing the name of the inmate until family has been notified.
