Fire at Forest Cove apartments extinguished, damages building

The fire started around 10 a.m. at a building in the apartment complex. Authorities said the fire started in the attic of the building.

ATLANTA — A heavy fire broke out at the condemned Forest Cove apartments on Thursday morning, according to Atlanta Fire authorities.

The fire started around 10 a.m. at a building in the apartment complex. Authorities said the fire started in the attic of the building.

Firefighters have not reported any injuries.

The 11Alive SkyTracker flew over the scene where it appears the fire has been extinguished. The front side of the building appeared to be heavily burned with no visible flames.

It was condemned in December 2021, which impacted more than 200 families that needed to be relocated. The complex reportedly posed a risk of serious health and safety issues, causing its closure. Residents also complained the property was plagued with issues as residents complained of having poor living conditions and a history of crime.

Recently, Mayor Andre Dickens and prominent civil rights attorney Ben Crump announced plans to file a lawsuit against the complex's management company, Millennia Housing Management, on Oct. 6, just days after an entity related to the company filed its own lawsuit against the city.

The apartments were supposed to be rebuilt for residents to move back into, but a set timeline was not slated for the completion of the apartments.

Officials have not released any details on the cause of the fire.

No other details were released from the fire department.
