How to apply for Forest Park's new home repair program

The program looks to help residents 62 years or older with repairs or modifications they may need around their residence.

FOREST PARK, Ga. — Applications are now open for the city of Forest Park's new home repair program.

The Homeowner Maintenance Enhancements (or H.O.M.E.) program looks to help residents 62 years or older with repairs or modifications they may need around their residence.

This could include everything from roofing, painting, and even electrical work.

"I think it's going to be so great," said Mattie Hartsfield, who has lived in her Forest Park home for 70 years. "This is a true, beautiful, wonderful Christmas. And I thank God that we got people on this program to help us."

Hartsfield told 11Alive she's needed new windows for years. This grant could help make that happen.

"I sit here in this chair and I get cold and they say it's coming from the windows," she said. "I'm trying hard to get the word out there."

How is this possible? According to a release sent out by the city, $1.3 million in grant funding from the American Rescue Plan Act will help cover the costs of repairs. Funds awarded will also not need to be repaid.

"This could be life-changing for some of them, especially as we enter our winter months, as we look at the necessary improvements that our seniors need as far," city manager Ricky Clark said. "The funding goes directly to the contractor, so the only thing the eligible resident has to do is get three quotes from a contractor, go within our system and our portal and register."

Forest Park dedicated $1.3 million to this home improvement program. They're excited to see how the money will help.

Here's how to apply

Step #1 (Application Submission): Residents can apply directly online. Once received, city officials will review each application.

Step #2 (Award Notification): Once qualified, applications will be notified of their approval. The applicant will then work with the city to select a contractor.

Step #3: (Services Complete): The contractor will receive the approved funds from city officials through the program. Repairs and upgrades are performed, which are then followed by certified inspections.

The deadline to submit an application is Friday, Feb. 9, at 5 p.m.
