FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — A man is in custody for DUI drug charges following a crash that killed two people on State Route 20 in Forsyth County.
On Tuesday, around 5 a.m., deputies with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office responded to a two-vehicle crash.
Thus far, the investigation indicates that two vehicles were approaching the portion of the road where the two westbound lanes merge into one. From there, investigators said the two drivers tried to get to the merge first.
One of the vehicles, a Camaro, attempted to move in front of the second vehicle, a Silverado, and "misjudged the clearance, colliding with the Silverado."
Deputies add that "the Camaro left the roadway and impacted a large tree." Both passengers in the Camaro were killed. They include a 19-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man.
The driver of the Silverado was uninjured; however, deputies said they determined he was impaired by drugs and he was taken into custody for DUI drugs.
The fault for the crash has yet to be determined. However, deputies believe speed was a contributing factor for both vehicles.
