Four Atlanta schools without water after water main break

The water main broke at Moury Avenue & Jonesboro Road.

ATLANTA — Four schools in the Atlanta Public Schools system are without water Friday morning after a water main break, the district said.

Atlanta Watershed reported the water main break at Moury Avenue & Jonesboro Road in South Atlanta.

The four impacted schools are:

  • Hank Aaron New Beginnings Academy (2930 Forrest Hills Dr. SW)
  • Humphries Elementary School (3029 Humphries Dr. SE)
  • Price Middle School (1670 Benjamin Weldon Bickers Dr. SE)
  • Slater Elementary School (1320 Pryor Rd. SW)

"Our Facilities department will deliver bottled water for drinking, a portable trailer to provide water for restrooms, and hand sanitizer for hand washing to those schools. Our school day will continue as scheduled, as we do not expect any disruptions to instruction," an APS statement said.

Atlanta Watershed posted pictures at 10:52 a.m. of the work being conducted to repair the water main break. An earlier release posted on X stated the break was caused by a private contractor.

A full statement said:

"Crews are responding to a water main break due to a breach in the line by a private contractor at the intersection of Moury Avenue & Jonesboro Road. Crews are onsite and working aggressively to make repairs to the 24-inch water main affecting the service area. Impacted residents and businesses may experience a temporary disruption of water service and/or low water pressure while the repairs take place."
