EAST POINT, Ga. — Four cats are missing after a fire broke out at a home in East Point early Thursday morning, according to fire officials.
Just after 4 a.m., fire crews responded to a structure fire in the 1400 block of Winburn Drive. Upon arrival, firefighters entered the basement where the fire was initially suspected. Crews encountered dense smoke and heat but could not find the fire's origin.
Firefighters then began spraying water through the basement windows and vents on the exterior side of the home. Crews eventually found the fire near the dryer ventilation in the basement.
No one was injured in the fire, and the residents safely self-evacuated. Unfortunately, four cats belonging to the residents were not found.
The blaze remains under investigation by the City of East Point Fire Department.
