Fulton County Commission votes to pay one of sheriff's office unpaid invoices

The past due bill totaling more than $640,00 owed to LEO Technologies will be paid.

ATLANTA — The ongoing issue surrounding the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office’s unpaid bills was once again discussed during the Fulton County Commission meeting on Wednesday.

The Fulton County Commission voted to pay one of the outstanding invoices owed by the sheriff’s office.

At the last commission meeting two weeks ago, Sheriff Patrick Labat came personally to the meeting to ask for the money he needs to pay vendors and keep up with the other expenses his office is responsible for. However, commissioners refused to budge.

“Some of this fell on deaf ears. Some of it was pulled off the agenda for whatever those reasons were. And so to that extent, we will continue to fight for our residents, for our employees and for our community," Labat said.

Some commissioners expressed frustration with the past due invoices, while others pointed out that the fiduciary responsibility ultimately lands in the county’s lap.

Wednesday's vote means the bill owed to LEO Technologies will be paid. That bill is more than $640,000. The company is a vendor who provides phone monitoring services the jail.

That leaves several other vendors who haven't been paid, adding up to more than a million dollars.
