FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — The Fulton County Department of Senior Services is seeking volunteers for its AmeriCorps Senior Companion Program.

AmeriCorps volunteers will serve as a friend or companion to senior residents in Fulton County. Volunteers must be 55 years old or older and must meet the eligibility requirements for the program.

The Senior Companion program focuses on helping older adults who have difficulty completing daily living tasks like cleaning or shopping. It's to ensure that residents can live in their own homes for as long as possible.

In addition, AmeriCorps volunteers keep seniors independent longer by improving social connection, reducing isolation, and providing some relief to family caregivers.

AmeriCorps volunteers can receive a $4 per hour stipend, based on income eligibility.

All eligible volunteers will also complete a mandatory one-to-two-day orientation training. Other training may also be part of the program.

Those interested in applying to become a trained AmeriCorps volunteer should contact the Fulton County Senior Services STARline at 404-613-6000 or email seniorservices@fultoncountyga.gov.
