GRIFFIN, Ga -- Police officers from around the state said goodbye to a fallen officer today. The memorial service for Griffin officer Kevin Jordan was held on Monday afternoon.
At his funeral, which was held at Oak Hill Baptist Church, the focus was on how he lived. He served his country in the Army, served the city of Griffin in the Police Department, and served his family as a father and husband.
"He was everything. He was the best friend I ever had in this life," said Jordan's wife, Tammy. "Y'all pray for us because this shouldn't have happened."
Officer Jordan's brother, Raymond, who was at the scene of his brother's death and shot one of the suspects, said, "I thank God I was able to do what I did. I have no regrets."
Jordan leaves behind eight children, including one who graduated from high school Saturday.
"He would ask everybody, 'Are you motivated?' We would say, 'Motivated, motivated, motivated,'" said Jordan's daughter, Jesshua. "We were his platoon of seven."
Jordan's brothers in blue promised to take care of his family.
On Sunday, the road leading up to Oak Hill Baptist Church was lined with American flags. Police cruisers with flashing lights stood guard at the corners leading into the church, more out of respect than necessity. His story drew people to the rural church in collective grief and admiration. The Patriot Guard Riders. Ride Captain David Shreckengost told 11Alive's Julie Wolfe they were honored to be invited, "He died for what we believe in. We are here to honor him, and let his family know they are not alone." Shreckengost challenged the Griffin community to bring flags and signs of support to line the road for Officer Jordan's funeral Monday.
