GAINESVILLE, Ga. -- An autopsy showed no signs of trauma on the body of a woman found floating in Lake Lanier on Sunday.
Hall County officials said they still have not determined the identity of the woman. They hope fingerprints and dental records will help make the identification.
Public Information Officer Nicole Bailes said, "the body was badly decomposed."
The woman was pulled from Lake Lanier after being discovered by fishermen who called 911 after spotting what they thought was a body under the Dawsonville Highway Bridge around 11:30 a.m.
When sheriff's officials got to the scene, they confirmed that it was a woman's body. Deputies were able to retrieve the body with the help of a Hall County Fire marine rescue boat. She was then taken to the DeKalb County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.
Portions of the Dawsonville Highway Bridge were shut down shortly after officials responded to the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
