ATLANTA — The leader of a top Downtown Atlanta attraction has died.

Georgia Aquarium announced Tuesday that President and CEO Brian Davis passed away. His cause of death was not released.

Davis was one of the first employees at the aquarium before its opening in 2005. He was named president and CEO in 2020, just months before the pandemic.

“We are heartbroken by this news,” Steve Koonin, board chairman of the Georgia Aquarium, said in a statement. “Brian was a giant in leadership with his intellect, wisdom and imagination.”

The aquarium said it may have limited operations in the coming days to allow its staff to grieve. Its board of directors appointed Executive Vice President Travis Burke as interim CEO.
