A professor at Georgia College and State University was one of two people killed in a three-car accident Monday night.
According to Georgia State Patrol, a 2005 Acura TSX, traveling southbound on Lake Laurel Road, crashed head-on with a 2014 Nissan Altima, which was traveling northbound on Lake Laurel Road, around 11:45 p.m.
Both Allison Everett, 51, and David Black, 54, were killed in the Nissan. Kenneth Everett, 54, was driving the car and airlifted to Navicent Health Care.
The driver of the Acura, identified as Brandon Hurst, 29, was also transported to Navicent Health Care.
The accident caused a third car, a 1996 Mazda B2300, to travel onto the east shoulder of Lake Laurel Road and into a ditch.
The driver suffered only minor injuries and was not transported to a hospital. Authorities are unsure what caused the accident.
Officials with Georgia College and State University released a statement on the tragic loss just before noon on Tuesday.
Georgia College is saddened by the tragic loss of Allison Everett. She has been a dedicated faculty member at Georgia College since 1991 teaching students in our School of Health and Human Performance as an exercise science lecturer.The GC community extends heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Allison. A tragic loss on a close-knit campus such as ours impacts many members of the campus community. The university will have counselors available for anyone on campus who needs assistance.
According to the university's website, Everett taught Exercise Science Courses.
