A Georgia Tech student was struck and killed on the downtown connector late Friday night.
According to an email from the vice president of student life at Georgia Tech, Kaden Campbell, a first-year undergraduate and Sigma Nu pledge, was killed Friday night while walking along the interstate.
Atlanta police have confirmed that, around 11 pm, officers responded to reports of a pedestrian struck on I-85 southbound at I-75 northbound. Police found the victim deceased on the scene.
"Preliminary investigation indicates the male appears to have been attempting to cross I-85 southbound when he was struck by an SUV," police said. No charges are anticipated, but police said the investigation is continuing.
Late Saturday night, the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed the victim was Campbell, 19, from St. Mary's, Ga.
Campbell also worked at Dogwood Animal Hospital, which posted the following item on its Facebook page Saturday night.
Campbell's father, Branden Campbell spoke with 11Alive's Joe Henke Sunday morning.
Brandon Campbell says the family plans two services, one in Snellville, and a second in St. Mary's, where Kaden will be laid to rest.
He says Kaden was not one to drink, and that there was no indication of any other problem that he was aware of.
Police are continuing their investigation of the incident.
