WASHINGTON — Among those slated to attend President Joe Biden's upcoming State of the Union Address, one Georgia mayor received a special invitation.
Augusta Mayor Garnett Johnson, along with others, will join First Lady Dr. Jill Biden in her viewing box. The White House invited Johnson because of Augusta-Richmond County's work as a Biden-Harris Administration Workforce Hub City.
The Augusta Workforce Hub is led by a partnership between Johnson and three Augusta regional education institutions. Its focus is on training students in growing sectors, such as advanced manufacturing and construction skilled trades, to prepare the next generation for technical jobs in the region.
The First Lady visited Augusta twice last year, in both July and November 2023.
The State of the Union address will be delivered Thursday, Mar. 9, at 9 p.m.
