GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A fire sparked inside a Gwinnett County home as a mechanic was working on a car inside a garage Wednesday night, officials said, but everyone was able to get out safely.

It happened around 8:30 p.m. at a home on Crestside Ridge outside Snellville's city limits, according to Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services.

Firefighters responded to the home and found "heavy fire in the garage."

"Firefighters deployed three hose lines to fully extinguish the flames with an additional aerial ladder truck," the fire service said. "No injuries were found on the scene."

In addition to the mechanic working in the garage, three other people were home at the time the fire started and all were able to evacuate.

"The mechanic cranked the vehicle and stated fire erupted out of the engine compartment. He then alerted the family inside the home and was able to self-evacuate the home," Gwinnett Fire said.

The occupants of the home initially requested Red Cross assistance, the fire service added, but instead decided to stay with family and friends.
