HAMPTON, Ga. — A Hampton Police officer is in the hospital after being struck by a vehicle Monday night.
The incident happened around 10:40 p.m. on Highway 3 near Woolsey Road in Hampton.
Police said the officer, later identified as 39-year-old Duane Jones, was hit while working outside his vehicle at a GDOT paving project near the Atlanta Motor Speedway when he was struck by a vehicle.
During a press conference on Tuesday afternoon, Hampton Police Chief Bo Jones said Jones sustained multiple serious injuries, including a fractured hip, several broken ribs, fractures in his spine and bruised lungs.

Jones was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital by air, where he remains in critical but stable condition.
No charges are expected, police said. The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the incident.
