KENNESAW, Ga. — A wreck left one person dead in Cobb County on Thursday, according to police.

Cobb County Police's Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (S.T.E.P.) Unit were called out to a two-vehicle crash on Hawkins Store Road near Farmbrook Lane just before 7 p.m.

Police said its initial investigation showed that a white 2006 Toyota Tundra pickup truck was driving west on Hawkins Store Road when the driver failed to maintain the lane and began to ride up on the curb and sidewalk.

At the same time, police said that a white 1997 Ford F-250 pickup truck was driving east on Hawkins Store Road.

Police said when the driver of the Tundra tried to get the wheels of the truck back on the road, he overcorrected and entered the eastbound lane, colliding head-on with the driver of the Ford. First responders arrived and tried to help revive the driver of the Toyota, but he was ultimately pronounced dead on scene, police said.

The driver of the Ford was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, police said.

Police said they will not release the name of the driver who died until next of kin has been notified.
