Here's how to get a free lead testing kit

Porterdale, Georgia is a small textile mill town, full of old houses, on quiet streets. It was here, at 27 Hazel Street, where Amy Smith says her daughter Tyasia tested positive for lead poisoning in 2007.

After an 11Alive investigation found that many Georgia kids may be at risk from lead poisoning from their own homes, homeowners can help ensure their kids' safety with the help of free lead testing kits.

On May 3, The 11Alive Help Desk will be at DeKalb County Fire Station #26 to hand out the free kits to anyone who stops by.

The 11Alive Help Desk will be at the station located at 2522 McAfee Road in Decature from 5 to 7 p.m.
