TAMPA, Fla. — The Tampa International Airport will close ahead of anticipated impacts from Hurricane Milton, airport leaders announced Monday.
Starting at 9 a.m. Tuesday, the airport will "suspend all commercial and cargo operations" and will remain closed until after the storm has passed. Once any damage is assessed and taken care of, Tampa International will reopen to the public.
Three other public airports managed by the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority — Peter O. Knight, Tampa Executive and Plant City Airports — will also close around the same time as TPA.
"TPA, including the Main Terminal and Airsides, will not be open for public use and is not equipped to function as a shelter for people or vehicles," the airport said in a release.
The airport is in Hillsborough County's evacuation Zone A. The airports parking garages will also be closed to the public during the airports suspension of operations. People should not bring their cars to the airport for parking.
Those who have travel plans are urged to pay attention to emergency management announcements and public safety alerts. Check with your airlines for the latest flight information.
Earlier on Monday, St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport announced it would suspend its operations starting this evening.
