ATLANTA — Atlanta Police are looking into the circumstances of a shooting that left one man dead Wednesday night.
The Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office said the victim is 38 years old and from Nigeria.
The shooting happened outside at BP gas station at the intersection of 14th Street NW and Atlantic Drive around 9 p.m. Wednesday. APD said the victim was taken to the hospital where died. The scene unfolded less than a mile from the Georgia Tech campus.
“I was coming up the hill and saw like seven police cars and tape and stuff," said a Georgia Tech student.
Georgia Tech sent out a "Clery Act Safety Alert" regarding the crime. In the email, it stated, "the victim was exiting the store of the BP gas station when he noticed the suspects attempting to break into his vehicle. As he approached his vehicle, he was shot by one of the suspects. The suspect vehicle was last seen heading west on 14th Street towards Northside Drive, away from campus. The victim is not affiliated with the Institute."
“We were cooking dinner and then we got this email and we were just like, 'oh no,'" another Georgia Tech student said.
No suspect description was released but the suspect vehicle description was listed as a "gray or silver four door sedan with an unknown license plate."
A witness snapped a photo of the active scene as police cruisers and crime scene tape blocked a portion of the parking lot.
