CONYERS, Ga. — A person is now dead after a crash with a tractor-trailer a crash on Interstate 20 in Conyers early Wednesday morning, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
GSP said the crash happened on the interstate at the Exit 80 ramp near West Avenue. According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, crews were called out around 1:38 a.m. to respond to the incident, and lanes were closed for hours.
Regarding how the crash occurred, GSP said a tractor-trailer was traveling west while the driver of a Honda Fit was driving eastbound, going the wrong way. That's when authorities said the front side of the car hit the backside axle of the tractor-trailer, causing the Honda to overturn. As the car was overturning, it hit the guardrail and finally came to rest. Troopers said the Honda's driver was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:10 a.m.
Law enforcement added that the tractor-trailer driver continued forward, traveling off of the right westbound shoulder, and then stopped.
The identity of the person who died has not been revealed at this time.
