This is a developing story.

ATLANTA — A death investigation is underway after an inmate was found unresponsive at the Atlanta City Detention Center, the sheriff's office said.

According to the Fulton County Sheriff's Office, 43-year-old Michael Brandon Rivers was a Fulton County Jail inmate housed at the Atlanta City Detention Center. On Monday, the sheriff's office said Rivers was found unresponsive during a security round by a detention officer.

The sheriff's office said the Atlanta Police Department took Rivers into custody on June 5 on a failure to appear warrant and he was being held without bond.

APD will conduct a death investigation, and the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy. 11Alive will provide more information once we have it.
