'I've been traumatized.' Man records his own car jacking on Facebook Live

"I don't want to just be a victim of this, I want to be a resident that takes pride in helping solve this crisis."

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. — A man told 11Alive he is traumatized after he recorded his own carjacking at gunpoint on Facebook live.

Jedediah Brown was parked in the 5000 block of Old National Hwy the night of April 27, recording a Facebook Live, when he saw a woman inside of another vehicle nearby that seemed to be in distress.

Brown explained in the video that it looked as if the woman was being tased, "We are sitting here trying to watch for her, make sure that she's okay," he stated.

Brown was inside his car with a female friend who stated that "she is not okay."

"It was pretty dark out here, so we were trying to make sure she was safe, she wasn't taken or taken advantage of," Brown said in an interview with 11Alive.

After watching from afar, Brown decided to go over to the woman to check on her. That's when a man in all black, toting a gun, came from behind Brown and stole his car.

"I turned around and there was this guy in all black, pointing a gun directly at us," Brown said. "I think I've been traumatized for the past three days. I've just played it over and over again."

Brown recalled the frighting moments when he was just trying to be a Good Samaritan. Now, he said he is ready to fight back because, according to him, this is not his first time being robbed of his car.

"I am outraged enough now where I want to see something done about it," Brown said. "This is the second time this happened to me as a new resident, here in Georgia."

Brown said he had been robbed a few months ago, and was even stabbed in the arm. He had the scar to prove it.

"It happens far too often," he said. "I need to turn this into what I always do, which is advocate. I'm reaching out to the mayor's office and police because there needs to be better police equipment that can read license plates. There needs to be more lighting and cameras because this happens to often."

Brown said he never expected his Facebook Live to turn into a car jacking and said "for the first time," he is shaken up. He spoke with police about it, who he said is willing to work with him to make the community safer.

"I don't want to just be a victim of this, I want to be a resident that takes pride in helping solve this crisis."
