First Lady Jill Biden focuses on women's health research at Morehouse School of Medicine luncheon

Biden visited the Peach State to discuss women's health on Wednesday.

GEORGIA, USA — Dr. Jill Biden visited the Peach State on Wednesday as part of the White House's Women's Health Research initiative.

The First Lady spoke at the Morehouse School of Medicine’s 2024 Heart Healthy Luncheon at the Georgia Aquarium, as part of the initiative.

Against a backdrop of whales swimming by, her speech focused on the research gaps and the adversities women constantly face in the medical industry.

At the beginning of her speech, she praised Morehouse School of Medicine for their "cutting-edge" research and their inspiring training to make sure students represent the communities they will soon serve.

"Remarkable work is happening here in Atlanta, where universities, entrepreneurs, investors, companies and city leaders and groups like Women With Heart are coming together to drive innovation in women's health," the First Lady said.

She gave several examples of how woman are often misdiagnosed and how "too many studies have left women out," especially women in underserved communities.

"Because of these gaps, we understand far too little about these conditions and how to help the millions of women who struggle with them," the First Lady said.

After attending the luncheon, Biden sat in a listening session on women’s health research with local leaders who are working to accelerate progress.

"Together, we will build a future where women – all women – aren’t just an after-thought, but a first thought, where health care meets the needs of everyone," she said in her introductory speech for the listening session.

Wednesday visit wasn't the first in Atlanta where the First Lady focused on a health initiative.

She appeared at Emory University in September, where she highlighted and reinforced the president’s national commitment to fight cancer.

During September’s visit, she shared her own personal story about the disease after losing her son, Beau Biden, to brain cancer in the fight “to end cancer as we know it.”

But Biden wasn't the only surrogate for the president to make a trip to Georgia this week: Vice President Harris was also seen in Savannah on Tuesday continuing her “Fight for Reproductive Freedoms” tour. It was Vice President Harris’ 11th trip to Georgia since being sworn in and her second trip to the Peach State in 2024.

The Vice President’s nationwide tour kicked off last week in Waukesha County, Wisconsin and continued on Monday in California. This was her third stop in the tour, and the Vice President plans to highlight the Biden Administration’s concerns about Georgia’s six-week ban on abortion — which went into effect shortly after Roe v. Wade was overturned in June 2022.

Last month, she visited The Gathering Spot to speak with community leaders about protecting voting rights.
