MARIETTA, Ga. — Two new K-9 units are now on patrol in Marietta.

The Marietta Police Department posted Friday that they had newly deployed K-9 Fedor and paired K-9 Mozes with a new handler.

Fedor is a one-year-old Dutch Shepherd, born in Hungary, who has been paired with Officer Powell. He had previously been partnered with K-9 Jacquo, who retired in March.

Mozes, meanwhile, is a two-year-old Belgian Malinois born in Israel paired with Officer Simmons. Mozes' previous handler left law enforcement, the department said on Facebook, opening the door for Simmons - who was recently honored as the MPD "Rising Star" for 2022.

According to the department, Mozes and Simmons have been training together for the past few months.

"Both K9 teams are certified in narcotics detection, tracking, article search, obedience, and criminal apprehension. We are fortunate to have both new teams now joining existing K9 teams Tyson and his handler Officer Foster, and Crisis Response K9 Barney and his handler Officer Hill on duty protecting & serving our community," the MPD Facebook post said.
