KENNESAW, Ga. — The social media accounts of Kennesaw State University students flooded with rumors of possible violent threats on campus on Tuesday. But the school said those claims are unfounded.
Messages shared on social media show at least one alleged threat of violence directed at a black student along with a mention of the Ku Klux Klan. Other messages later appeared from concerned students claiming a shooter was on campus.

According to Kennesaw State spokesperson Tammy Demel, police received several inquiries about safety concerns on their campuses following the messages.
"The KSU PD takes all inquiries seriously and is currently investigating," Demel said. "At this time, there are no credible threats to campus."
The Kennesaw State University Department of Emergency Management later reiterated that there was no shooter on campus. Despite the lack of credible threats, Demel said that they have stepped up patrols.
In a followup email, Demel confirmed that there was no lockdown on the campuses but asked anyone with information on possible threats to call the campus police at 470-578-6206 or use the LiveSafe app.
