BUFORD, Ga. — As spring quickly approaches, trips to the lake are just around the corner for many metro Atlantans looking to cool off and have some fun.

For those planning on taking a trip to Lake Lanier Islands, the water park is adding a first-of-its-kind water ride in the state of Georgia.

Last summer, Margaritaville at Lanier Islands announced they were building the first waterslide coaster. The new slide is set to open this spring and will be named "Apocalypso." According to Margaritaville at Lanier Islands, the slide is the centerpiece of a new four-slide tower coming in 2024.

"This thrilling waterslide coaster spanning 418 feet, features the most significant drop of its kind in the U.S., sending riders on a wild journey through steep valleys and blasting them up hills before a dramatic final descent," the ride is described on their website.

On the Margaritaville at Lanier Islands Facebook page, they posted updates on the progress of the new "coaster" and pictures of people signing the structural support beams that recently went up.

"The slide complex will redefine aquatic thrills with an iconic and colorful tower housing a total of four heart-pounding thrill rides, including a nearly vertical 40- to 50-foot wave wall," they posted on social media.
