Guardrail approved for dangerous Gwinnett County road after 300 accidents in a decade

Residents finally receive an update following recent car crash

NORCROSS, Ga. — In response to increasing safety concerns and a recent car accident, Gwinnett County officials have announced the approval and installation of a guardrail along Langford Road in Norcross. The decision comes after a decade that witnessed a staggering 300 accidents along this perilous stretch of roadway.

Residents, who have been pushing for safety measures, expressed relief after enduring years of uncertainty and numerous accidents. The announcement followed 11Alive's previous reporting in September, revealing the alarming frequency of accidents on Langford Road between North Peachtree Street and Buford Highway.

Dior Choi, a resident living near the accident-prone area, described the recent crash, stating, "We can feel how strong the gust of wind passes by with these cars passing by us. It is alarming for us. And it's a big concern."

Choi, who previously spoke with 11Alive about his community's plea for a guardrail, had witnessed a more serious crash in his backyard just a few months ago.

Back in September, 11Alive brought attention to the community's efforts to address the issue. At that time, a spokesperson from Gwinnett County assured an inspection would be conducted to determine the eligibility of installing a guardrail. However, residents like Choi reported a lack of updates, leaving them in a state of limbo.

Choi emphasized the frustration, stating, "We've got the city telling us to talk to Gwinnett County. And when our county, again, hasn't given us an update. So, it is alarming for us."

After months of uncertainty, 11Alive reached out to the county once again for an update. Late this afternoon, a Gwinnett County spokeswoman confirmed that the county had inspected the roadway and deemed it eligible for the installation of a guardrail. The safety measure is now scheduled for implementation in 2024.

The news brought relief to Langford Road residents, who have long awaited a resolution to the safety concerns surrounding their community. As the guardrail project moves forward, locals hope it will provide a safer environment for both residents and commuters.
