Driver leads troopers on chase, jumps over wall and falls to concrete walkway on Atlanta Beltline: GSP

Here's what we know.

ATLANTA — A driver led Georgia State Patrol troopers on a chase Thursday afternoon, which led to a large law enforcement presence along the Westside Atlanta Beltline Connector Trail.

According to GSP, troopers attempted to stop a white Mercedes C300 for traffic violations on Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway NW near Griffin Street NW in Atlanta around noon.

Troopers said the driver initially pulled into the BP gas station at Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway NW and Echo Street NW in Atlanta's Bankhead neighborhood. As they approached the car, the driver took off, and a chase ensued, GSP said.

Troopers performed a PIT maneuver on the Mercedes. That's when GSP said the driver ran away, jumped over a wall on the north side of Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway NW and fell to a concrete walkway -- which is part of the Beltline connector trail.

The driver was taken to Grady with injuries sustained due to the fall; no law enforcement officers were injured, GSP added.

GSP said a passenger was also in the Mercedes at the time of the chase. At this time, it's unclear if the driver or passenger will face any charges.

11Alive SkyTracker flew over the scene, where crime scene tape was seen in front of the tunnel of the connector trail. Georgia State Patrol cars were also seen blocking part of the road in the area.

11Alive crews also saw an ambulance at the intersection of Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard and Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway.
