FAYETTE COUNTY, Ga. -- A Fayette County firefighter is being credited with saving a life when he jumped into action while off-duty.
According to the Fayette County Fire Department, firefighter Nic Gilmer was at the gym on his day off when a 50-year-old man complained he wasn't feeling well.
The man suddenly went into cardiac arrest, but Gilmer started performing CPR while someone else dialed 911. Paramedics arrived in minutes to continue rescue efforts.
First responders were able to resuscitate the man before taking him to the hospital conscious and talking.
The department is crediting Gilmer's actions for saving the man's life.
