Lottery winner's murder suspect escapes from Ga. jail

BEN HILL COUNTY, Ga. -- A manhunt is underway for an inmate who escaped from a Georgia jail.

Authorities are looking for 28-year-old Earnest Holcomb after the Sheriff's Department said he escaped from the Ben Hill County Jail late Wednesday afternoon.

He's 5'9 and weighs around 150 lbs.

Holcomb is one of seven suspects accused of killing lottery winner Craigory Burch during a home invasion on January 20. Burch went public about winning a lottery jackpot worth more than $400,000. Investigators believe the group was after his money.

Craigory Burch Jr. has won nearly half a million dollars playing Ga. Lottery Fantasy 5.

All seven were charged with malice murder, armed robbery, aggravated assault, possession of firearm during the commission of the crime, according to WALB-TV.

Craigory Burch Jr. matched all five numbers from the Nov. 29 Fantasy 5 drawing, winning the $434,272 jackpot. He purchased the winning ticket at H&R Food Mart at 1507 Watson Blvd. in Warner Robins.

WALB reports, Holcomb was last seen in the jail around 3:20 p.m. and likely escaped after 5:00 p.m. when he got onto the jail's roof and jumped off. Sheriff Bobby McLemore says no surveillance video shows how Holcomb got on the roof, but deputies found his pink jumpsuit there.

If you have any information about him, you should call the Ben Hill County Sheriff's Office or 911.
