GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A Mill Creek High School baseball player has been hospitalized and is now recovering after "a baseball-related head injury," according to a social media post from the school

Luke Stonecypher was hit with a baseball on Dec. 7, a GoFundMe page stated. The injury led to bleeding on his brain and blood clotting, the fundraiser stated.

Details on the circumstances of where or how the incident unfolded have not been released.

"The blood clot was removed and repaired during emergency surgery on Thursday (Dec. 7). Part of his skull was removed to allow more room for the swelling in his brain," said the GoFundMe page.

Stonecypher is now making progress in recovery, but a long road awaits ahead for him as his family learns to adjust to his healing.

"Please join us in supporting Luke and his family with your prayers and by giving if you feel led," the high school said in it's post.

The GoFundMe page has a goal of $15,000. It is currently sitting at a whopping total of $13,260.

As the fundraiser reaches closer to its goal, loved ones close to the family posted an update on Dec. 14, saying, "One week ago, Luke was heading into surgery. Now, he’s on his way to what we pray is a full recovery! Thank you for supporting the Stonecyphers - they appreciate every note and donation, and are asking for continued prayer!"
