A man received critical injuries when he fell onto the tracks at the Chamblee MARTA station Monday morning.
DeKalb County Fire Captain Eric Jackson said a train coming into the station struck and dragged the man about 30 or 40 feet before it came to a stop.
"We found the man in a depression that extends about a foot below the train bed," Jackson said.
Jackson said EMS crews were able to stabilize the man's condition and get him removed from the tracks before transporting him to a local hospital.
He pointed out that the crews worked diligently to ensure that they did not come into contact with the train itself or the third rail while they worked to extricate the victim from the area in front of the train.
MARTA spokesperson Stephany Fisher said that while the rail line was not in an area affected by Monday morning's implosion at the Georgia Dome, some delays were experienced by riders, who were bussed around the accident scene during the investigation.
Normal service was expected to resume by midday.
