COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A man died Monday after experiencing a medical episode at the Cobb County Jail, the sheriff's office said.
According to the Cobb County Sheriff's Office, Fernando Carr "experienced chest pains and began seizing" while he was in the recreation yard.
He was transported to Kennestone Hospital where he died.
The sheriff's office said Carr was booked into the jail on Nov. 1, and had a documented heart condition.
The sheriff's office said his chest pains began in the rec yard, and he was then taken to the infirmary and given fluids.
"He was initially responsive when engaging with the medical staff. While receiving care, he began to have another episode, at which time immediate life-saving techniques were administered by medical personnel," a release stated.
According to the sheriff's office, the GBI was notified and a standard internal investigation will also be conducted "to ensure protocols were followed." The Cobb County Medical Examiner will also perform an autopsy to determine an official cause of death.
