A 40-year-old Coweta handyman is recovering from injuries sustained after falling through a back porch and into a well.
Roger Howard was working on the back deck of a home on Doc Terry Road when he fell through a thinly covered, old, hand dug well. Firefighters estimate the drop was at least 30 feet.
"It happened so quick there was nothing anyone could do. I just remember saying 'Lord, help me"," said Howard.
Homeowner Brittany Bloodsworth was talking to Howard at the time.
"I watched him go straight through. It was just complete terror. I didn't know if he was dead or alive," said Bloodworth.
Coweta County firefighters used what they call heavy technical rescue gear to get Howard out.
"We could speak with him. We used a tripod system to lower a rescuer down to him, immobilize his head and neck and then bring him out," said Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Denney.
Howard suffered a broken shoulder blade, hairline fractures along his spine and numerous scrapes, bruises and stitches.
