DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — An argument led to a man being gunned down in the middle of the street on Wednesday.

Just before noon, Lt. Lonzy Robertson with DeKalb Police said a man in a black pickup truck drove into the Atlanta Wings restaurant parking lot and opened fire on 29-year-old Michael Brooks.

Brooks began to run across Glenwood Road when police said one of the bullets struck him and he went down. Police said the gunman, later identified as 42-year-old Rico King, walked over to Brooks and fired several more rounds striking him, then drove away.

But he didn't get away. A witness was sitting in his work truck at the time of the shooting and followed the shooter to Moreland Avenue, then alerted Atlanta Police of his location.

"He wanted to make sure we got the vehicle tag, and that was brave of him to do that," Robertson said.

Atlanta Police followed the truck to Tuskegee Street were King was arrested.

Glenwood Road and Candler Road is where the shooting happened and is a busy intersection.

"This is a very busy intersection at all times, even at night," Robertson explained. "We are fortunate no one else was struck. None of the business owners have told us about any of the rounds hitting their businesses."

The owner of a hair store in the area witnessed the shooting.

"I touched his neck and nothing was there. I was like 'Oh my God the baby is gone.' It's horrible. It was just sad. It was nothing they could do," the witness said. "The man stood over him without any remorse and just shot him."

Robertson said police have no motive yet for the shooting and are interviewing witnesses and canvassing the area for surveillance video.
