ATLANTA — A person was hit and killed by a train on Wednesday, according to the Atlanta Police Department.
Atlanta Police Officers were dispatched around 6:15 a.m. regarding a crash at 2043 Cheshire Bridge Road NE. Police said a CSX train had hit a man, and he died. According to the train company's website, they are a leading supplier of rail-based freight transportation in North America.
Officers have interviewed conductors and said the investigation would continue with the CSX Police.
Fulton County Medical Examiner said they would release the identification of the person once the next of kin is notified.
"CSX extends its deepest sympathies to everyone impacted by this tragedy. This is an unfortunate reminder of the dangers of trespassing on railroad property. CSX appreciates the swift action of local first responders. The incident is under investigation," a statement from the company read in part.
