GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A man is missing after he fell off a jet ski on Lake Lanier on Saturday, according to the Department of Natural Resources.
According to DNR, a 37-year-old man fell off his jet ski without wearing a life jacket before he successfully swam to shore. A witness told officials they then saw the man swim back out to the jet ski to retrieve it when he went under and didn't resurface.
Gwinnett County Fire Department searched throughout the day Sunday using aviation and boat-mounted sonar until dark. Game wardens with DNR searched all day on Sunday using sonar equipment, but he was not located.
Officials add that the man's girlfriend was looking for him Saturday evening but could not find him. He disappeared around East Bank Park in Gwinnett County.
Crews from Gwinnett and Hall County fire departments searched the water on Saturday until dark with no success. The search will resume on Monday morning, DNR officials said.
DNR said they will not provide the man's name until all of his family has been notified.
