Man shot by Atlanta Police officer during domestic dispute in Midtown, police say

Here is what we know.

ATLANTA — A man is in custody after he was shot by an Atlanta Police officer who was responding to a domestic dispute in Midtown on Saturday night.

APD said officers responded to the 700 block of Peachtree St. NW just before 7:30 p.m. for a domestic call.

Once on the scene, officers said they met the 911 caller, who said she had been in a physical fight with her partner. She then asked the police officers to remove him from her apartment.

The GBI, in its release, said officers added that they noticed bruises on her chest and head.

Police later encountered the man near the entrance of the apartment building, but he ran away when they tried to approach him. At that moment, officers said he also pulled out a gun and began shooting.

One of the officers shot back, hitting the man in the arm. He was later taken to the hospital and treated before being released to Atlanta Police custody.

As is customary, the GBI is conducting an independent investigation of the incident.
