COVINGTON, Ga. — Deputies shot an allegedly armed man on Saturday morning, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), at a home in Covington.

The situation began when a woman called 911 to report a safety concern at a home in the 400 block of Barshay Drive. Deputies responded to the call and found a man inside the residence. As they approached, the man exited through the back door and pointed a handgun at them. Deputies then fired at the man, hitting him.

No deputies were injured in the incident. The man was taken to a local hospital for treatment and is seriously hurt, according to GBI.

Authorities did not provide specific details on the safety concerns that prompted the call to the home. Deputies also said the man had outstanding arrest records but did not clarify what they were for.

The GBI has conducted an independent investigation into the shooting.
