A man who was shot by law enforcement in Riverdale Thursday night has died.
According to a release from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, 23-year-old Darryl Fussell was shot by law enforcement after they were called around 6:30 p.m. to investigate at a medical office off River Park Drive.
Police were told that two men were believed to be trespassing on the site, which was undergoing renovations, the release said.
When officers with the Riverdale Police Department arrived, contractors told them that one man left the building after being asked to leave, but the other one was still inside.
Fussell, believed to be one of the alleged trespassers, was asked by police to leave. While trying to “convince him to leave,” police said Fussell grabbed a sharp tool and rushed at police, according to the release.
Medical office, police presence
That’s when an officer pulled out his weapon and shot him. The 23-year-old from Dacula was taken to a local hospital, but later died, the release said.
The GBI is now investigating the shooting. Once an autopsy is done and investigators reach a conclusion, they will present their finding to the Clayton County District Attorney’s Office for review, the release said.
