CLARKESVILLE, Ga. -- A man who police said crashed into a chicken house had to be pepper-balled and then bean-bagged by police before being taken into custody.
The incident happened around 6 am on Wednesday, when a Habersham County deputy was dispatched to Mt Airy, Ga., about the crash.
When he arrived, the chicken house's owner showed him where the vehicle was, told him who the driver was and the damage that was caused.
The deputy attempted to make contact with the driver, Joshua Libby, at his residence, but police said Libby refused to come to the door and was holding a knife and a Bible. Several more attempts to speak with Libby were unsuccessful.
Deputies obtained an arrest warrant on Libby for criminal damage to property, but he still refused to come out.
Police entered Libby's home around 7:41 am, and police said Libby had a knife in his hand and refused to come out of his basement.
Deputies used a pepper-ball launcher and struck Libby in the upper body, but he still refused to comply. Deputies continued to use the pepper ball launcher, using pepper powder, but Libby continued to move back and forth in the room to avoid the pepper powder.
Police said every time Libby crossed in front of the doorway where deputies could see him, he would wave a knife.
Police eventually struck Libby in his lower leg with beanbag round, and he was then taken into custody.
