COBB COUNTY, Ga. — One of the contractors who was shot by a homeowner Wednesday in East Cobb has died.
According to Cobb County Police, 21-year old Jake Allen Horne died from his injuries. Officers were called to Wellington Lane on March 6 to investigate an aggravated assault and aggravated battery.
When they arrived they found 37-year-old Gordon Montcalm of Buchanan, Georgia suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers then found a second victim, Horne, with a gunshot wound to his head.
Both men were taken to Kennestone Hospital in serious condition.
Police have identified the person who shot the men as Larry Joel Epstein, 68. He was initially charged with two counts each of aggravated assault with the intent to murder and aggravated battery.
Police said they are still investigating the motive, but believe the shooting was tied to a home contractor dispute. The men were there doing electric work at Epstein's home and they were shot as they attempted to leave after completing their workday, according to officers.
Police said Epstein is currently being held without bond at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center. The Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit will be working with the District Attorney’s Office to upgrade the offense.
Epstein made a first appearance before a Cobb County judge Thursday night. The next court appearance is set for March 26.
Meanwhile, family has set up a GoFundMe for Horne.
