MARIETTA, Ga. – The security guard critically injured in a shooting at a FedEx facility last year continues to face medical issues, his wife said in a new post Sunday.
Christopher Sparkman was shot at point-blank range in the abdomen when 19-year-old Geddy Kramer attacked the Kennesaw facility on April 29, 2014. Kramer shot five more people before killing himself.
Since the shooting, Sparkman has been in and out of the hospital for more than 30 surgeries.
There had been hope that a Feb. 16 surgery would be Christopher's last, but in a new post Sunday, his wife, Jamie Lynn, posted that they are dealing with more complications. She wrote:
It has been concluded that these leakages from his abdomen have not stopped as of yet. Once the surgeons are able to maintain control of the leaking into his abdomen, Chris will no longer need to go to the OR for wash outs every 48 hours, which he has done courageously since Feb. 16th. But we are not there yet. If this can be achieved, we hope to be be returning home for "bowel rest" with some of the same woundcare, dressings and daily care that we came in with and hoped to reverse.
Doctors must wait an extended period, perhaps as long as a year, before they can attempt to repair the leakage.
Earlier this month,Jamie Lynn spoke publicly about their need for financial help. FedEx said last week they were exploring ways to help the family.
