WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- It was an afternoon of touching tributes to Cobb County Marine Lance Cpl. Skip Wells.

Hundreds lined the streets as the 21-year-old made his final journey home.

He was laid to rest on Sunday after being gunned down the previous week outside of a recruiting center in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Hundreds of his friends, fellow service members and neighbors came to First Baptist Woodstock to remember and honor a man who gave everything for a country he loved.

Wells was remembered for his service, his friendship and his dedication to his family and country.

"Well's life will never be remembered for its duration," Pastor Johnny Hunt said. "But he will be forever remembered for his donation."

His best friend since he was in sixth grade spoke about the fun times they had growing up together.

Even though life took them in different directions, they always remained close.

"We were friends for a long time in person, for half of our lives," Jareko Aloisio said. "Now we shall be in each other's spirit forever."

Wells joined the Marine Corps because he felt a higher calling to duty.

His enlisted leader described him as a good Marine who he will always remember.

"He joined our unit last year, about 11 months ago," 1st Sgt. John Coyne said. "He quickly distinguished himself from his peers through his hard work and positive attitude."

After the ceremony, the procession went north on Hwy. 575 to the Georgia National Cemetery where he will be interred with honors.

One anecdote that was shared involved Wells' love of Disney World.

He was raised by a single mother but every year they made a trip to the Orlando theme park.

But recently, it was Wells who was able to treat his mother.
