MARIETTA, Ga. -- As the judge read the charges during his first court appearance Monday morning, accused kidnapping and rape suspect Andrew Head cursed and shouted, "That was consensual! That was bull ****!"
Head was seated in a wheelchair for Monday morning's hearing. Before the judge appeared for the hearing, Head flipped off the camera.
Because of the rape charge, bond was not an option for Head. No date has been set for his next court appearance.
Head, 27, was caught Sunday morning after a police chase. He is in jail without bail, facing charges of robbery by force, three counts of rape, two counts of aggravated assault and other charges.
Marietta Police said a woman called 911 at about 9 a.m. Sunday, saying she had been kidnapped and raped, and that the suspect had just stolen her van. The victim had locked herself inside a bathroom on South Marietta Parkway.
A description of the stolen vehicle was broadcast, and police located the vehicle traveling east on South Marietta Parkway near Cobb Parkway South.
Police tried to pull the vehicle over but said the driver refused to stop, instead, turning onto Cobb Parkway South and then onto South Cobb Drive.
During the chase, the suspect drove the van into oncoming traffic on the wrong side of South Cobb Drive. Police said the suspect then tried to run the stolen van into their vehicles as well as other civilian vehicles in the area.
The chase ended on South Cobb Drive between Fairground Street and Atlanta Road when the suspect swerved the stolen van into another vehicle, causing a serious auto accident.
Both Head and the driver of the other vehicle were taken to Kennestone Hospital.
"We are glad this violent suspect was taken into custody and won't be able to hurt anyone else," said Marietta police Sgt. Chuck McPhilamy.
