MARTA Police officer, driver hospitalized after crash

The incident happened early Tuesday morning.

ATLANTA — A MARTA Police officer and another driver were sent to the hospital early Tuesday morning after a crash.

MARTA Police confirmed the crash happened a little before 1 a.m., when an MPD officer was responding as backup to Garnett Station.

"The officer had lights and sirens activated as they crossed through the intersection of Lee Street and W. Whitehall Street, and collided with another vehicle, causing both to leave the roadway and rest alongside the Norfolk Railroad tracks," a statement said. "Both the officer and the driver were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries."

According to MARTA Police, Atlanta Police completed an investigation into the incident.

It was not detailed what the injured officer was responding to Garnett Station about.
