Massive fire engulfs apartment building in Douglasville

The Red Cross said volunteers went to the scene and assisted seven families.

DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. — Firefighters responded to a massive blaze at an apartment building in Douglasville on Wednesday afternoon.

Douglas County Fire crews responded to a fire at an apartment building at 8424 Chicago Avenue in Douglasville. That is the address for the Douglasville Proper apartment building, which is less than a mile from downtown Douglasville.

The Red Cross said volunteers went to the scene and assisted seven families for a total of 28 people. The Disaster Action Team provided comfort kits and more to those impacted.

11Alive's SkyTracker flew over the apartment building, which showed one of the buildings completely charred and smoke billowing from the complex, which appeared to have at least several units inside the building that had been badly damaged.

It's unclear at this time whether there were any injuries reported from the fire. We have reached out to Douglas County Fire but are still waiting to hear back from them.
