ATLANTA — Atlanta will install a new station for its MARTA rail system, Mayor Andre Dickens announced during his State of the City speech on Monday.
This new station, which will be situated at Murphy Crossing, will also be the first to connect directly to the BeltLine.
"Investments like Murphy Crossing and high-capacity transit on Campbellton Road will ensure that residents on the southside will have access to the best Atlanta has to offer," Dickens said during his speech.
The mayor noted that a large part of his transportation plan is to create "healthy, thriving neighborhoods."
He added that the current MARTA rail system is underutilized and believes that a large part of that is the lack of stations.
According to Dickens, this will be the first of three additional in-fill stations, essentially new stations built on the existing line, that MARTA hopes to build throughout the city.
