Mayor Dickens hosts opening of rapid rehousing property for Atlanta's unhoused

The property on Bonaventure Avenue will contain 23 housing units.

ATLANTA — Mayor Andre Dickens joined community leaders for the unveiling of a new rapid rehousing property in our city. The property will assist those experiencing homelessness.

The property on Bonaventure Avenue will contain 23 housing units, all of which will be used for the "chronically unsheltered." It will also provide case management support and mental health services for those staying there.

In January, the city celebrated the opening of 'The Melody,' which turned roughly two dozen shipping containers used as hospital rooms during the pandemic into 40 studio-style apartments, all equipped with private bathrooms, beds and kitchenettes.

The properties are part of the City of Atlanta's effort to create 500 rapid housing units by the end of 2025.

Those earning less than 30% of the median income will be able to stay at the property, according to Mayor Dickens, who added that its studio units come fully furnished with refrigerators, cooktops, and even washer and dryers.

As for extra perks, the property sits just a couple blocks away from Ponce City Market and the Atlanta Beltline, putting it right in the heart of one of Atlanta's most in-demand neighborhoods.

Dickens added that the Bonaventure property looks to welcome new residents by Christmas. Two more groundbreakings on similar properties are expected to happen in the coming weeks.

"Our team is taking every available opportunity to create affordable housing in any corner of the city we can find," Mayor Dickens said.
